Editor review

Wave Ascend adds a momentum-jump mechanic over a standard platform run. Speedrun timers track best splits and the leaderboard shows top runs per chapter. The momentum-jump is the central mechanic; holding the jump button longer at full speed gives a higher arc than a stationary jump of equal duration.

The momentum-jump teaches well in chapter one and rewards practice in chapter four. The middle chapters do less with it, and a player who breezes through chapters two and three can find chapter four sharper than expected. The pacing here is the weak point.

I played across a Edinburgh Edinburgh tram commute and a weekend afternoon. The split timer is the most-played feature; comparing your splits to the leaderboard is a quiet motivator.

The flaw is the leaderboard. The leaderboard shows only the top fifty, which is enough for most players and not enough for the dedicated speedrun crowd. A regional or friends-only filter would help. Three stars overall.
